Our Program

We are a locally-owned preschool located in Canonsburg, Pa. We have been in business for over forty years and serve area children ages 3-5. We offer a traditional two-class setting: a morning and afternoon session. Our school year begins the Tuesday after Labor Day and we conclude in mid-May.

Circle Time: During this portion of our day, children learn and review basic Calendar concepts, teachers introduce and review the letter of the week, engage in finger plays, and listen to both classic children’s stories as well as new publications.

Learning Centers: Learning centers, or “centers” for short, is where most of our academic learning takes place. During this time, teachers work in small groups of four or five students on a variety of preschool skills. Students not working with teachers will be engaged in free play or an academic activity that children are able to do independently. It is also during this time that our Head teacher will work with our Kindergarten Readiness students on skills needed to be successful in kindergarten and beyond. Please visit the Kindergarten Readiness page to learn more about this program.

Exercise: Each day, we do a different type of gross motor activity. These include guided dances, yoga sessions as well as movement songs & games. Depending on the weather, we can do these activities in the small fenced in area behind the school or in the classroom. These activities can boost children’s self-esteem, provide an appropriate avenue for energy release, and even help relieve stress and frustration.

Art Projects: Children complete weekly art projects or crafts. Projects typically are theme based but can also focus on different skills. Our teachers believe that each child is an artist and encourage each child’s unique creativity.

Weekly Special Person: Children get to bring in a poster board decorated with pictures of friends, family, pets, and activities they enjoy. The child gets to be the center of attention and teach classmates all about the people and activities they love most. They also get to be the teacher helper & line leader for the week!

Monthly Show & Tell: Show and Tell gives children an opportunity to stand in front of their friends and speak on a topic that interests them or share something they love. It builds confidence and helps children develop effective communication skills.

Birthday Celebrations: To celebrate, we will sing “Happy Birthday” before snack, the birthday child will wear a special birthday crown, make a birthday wish, and receive a small birthday gift. The birthday child is also able to send home a special treat at the END OF THE DAY- this is completely optional.

Class Parties: We have four holiday parties during the school year- Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter. These are strictly “fun days.” The children play games, sing special songs, do a themed craft, and eat a special snack! The children dress up for Halloween, exchange a grab-bag gift and have a visit from Santa at Christmas, exchange valentines for Valentine’s Day, and have a visit from the Bunny at Easter!

Extras: Our school also incorporates multiple field trips into our program each year as well as community speakers. We have the children’s vision tested each year by the Vision Services of Washington-Greene County and have a visit from a dental hygienist emphasizing importance of dental care. The school also offers an End of the Year Program with a Graduation Ceremony to celebrate our students moving onto kindergarten!

We look forward to meeting you and your child!
